Excellence in Teaching Award

WVCTE Excellence in Teaching Award



  • West Virginia English teachers of grades K-12
  • Teachers can be nominated by students, peers, members of their community, or self-nominated.
  • The nominee must be an active, full-time teacher with at least three years of experience.
  • Nominated teachers must fill out an application, and a judging committee (comprised of past winners, members of the WVCTE Executive Committee, and others from the educational community) reviews applications and selects the winners.
  • Nominees cannot be members of the WVCTE Executive or Conference Committees during current planning year.


We welcome self nominations. Nominees must submit a completed nomination packet by March 20, 2018.


Candidate packets include:


  • Page 1 of this form as a cover sheet
  • Resume
  • 2 page essay: Teaching Philosophy, typed, double-spaced, 1 inch margins
  • Two letters of recommendation from a colleague, parent, or student.

on or before March 20, 2018.


Finalists will be notified by April 1, 2018.


Finalists and winner will be recognized and awarded prize at the 2018 WVCTE conference during Saturday’s luncheon on April 21, 2018.
